The Documentary Eye at Weddings
This workshop explores how to bring the principles of documentary photography to the modern wedding day. In a world saturated with scripted, filtered, and overly perfected imagery, the ability to truly observe is what sets meaningful work apart. Together we'll strengthen your instinct for anticipation and refine how you approach the wedding day as a documentarian, creating images that feel honest, intentional, and deeply resonant for your couples. We'll also look at how to cultivate a documentary mindset not only in your own work, but in the way you communicate with clients and set expectations from the very beginning.
Over three sessions, the workshop moves from foundations to craft to business. We begin by defining what documentary photography actually means in a wedding context, and by surfacing the real challenges you face when shooting. The creative day focuses on building a story through images, reading light and composition in unpredictable situations, and using flash as a narrative tool rather than a fix, with hands-on shooting and image review. The final day turns to the working life of a documentary photographer: personal work and balance, client communication and trust, building a portfolio that reflects your vision, and the role of retouching, closing with practical group editing and critique.
You'll leave with a sharper eye, a clearer method, and a way of working that holds up across the whole arc of the wedding day.

FAQ
Is this workshop right for me?
It's made for photographers who shoot weddings and want to build a documentary eye, whether you're just starting out or you've been working for years and want to bring intention back into how you see.
Do I need experience shooting weddings?
It helps, but it isn't essential. The workshop starts by defining what documentary photography actually means at a wedding, and builds method and vision from there.
Will we shoot during the workshop?
No. You won't be shooting, but Corie will demonstrate her own approach live, especially when it comes to handling light and using flash.
What do I need to bring?
For now, just paper and a pen. We'll let you know before the workshop.
Is this a course about using flash?
No. Flash is one of the tools we cover, but the goal is learning to tell a story in real conditions, not to fix a technical problem.
Do we cover the business side too?
Yes. A full day is dedicated to the working life of the photographer: client communication, building trust, personal work and balance.
Do I need to bring my own work?
Yes. We'll ask you to send a documentary image you care about in advance, so it can be projected and discussed together during the creative day.
Is this an open conference or an intimate workshop?
An intimate workshop. We believe in small groups, so you can fully follow Corie and we can create the right environment for learning.
